Dancing Video Ideas

This is similar dancing we want to have in our music video. It is very happy and energetic dancers. This is the type of dancing that fits our genre. We would have just have 3 people dancing about rather than a full crowd. The type of dancing if from the 70's which fits. The colour of the costumes matches the brightness and makes the video pots.

Textual Analysis

Sound

The song is very up beat and positive like ours. This gets people singing along and dancing to the lyrics very similar to our songs effect. The genre of the song is Soundtracks. This is much like ours. The beat makes everyone happy and this is what we wanted to portray in the sound. This would of been the most fun to shot as well as you can be spontaneous while dancing to the tune.

Camera

There are many close ups and medium shots of the artist that is singing. The background is blurred and the artist is in main focus. There are many long shots of many different people dancing about in different areas that have colourful backgrounds. The camera stays stable. It may be on a tripod in one position the whole time. The framing and the distance from the dancers is the same each time. In some shots the dancers is more focused on but in other bigger shots with more background in the whole shot is focused. In some shots the camera gets closer just showing from the hips up. Also the camera is fixed to a trolly in one of the shots which gives it a POV feel. There are many different locations used to shot dancers.

Editing

The cuts in this video are very simple and are straight cuts. There are many involved due to the different locations and amount of dancers. The cuts are between mainly the artist and different dancers which are just showing a narrative of people being happy and smiling while dancing to the tune. This is the same foiujd is most music videos. The narractive is more extravagant in music videos rather than the cuts being different as well.

Mise en Scene

The costumes involved are very colourful and fit the feeling of the song. No one is in dull colours Also people are wearing accessories that stand out and make the people pop more. One of the dancers is wearing a old fashioned hat which we want to involve. For example the washing bucket is filled with bright colours of clothes which is not really what the modern day looks like. It mostly dull and dim colours.  The locations involved such as a car wash or a beach hut or a little statue shop on the street. All have bright colours themed around such as yellow and red and baby blue. The store is lit well with the store lights and the packaging around the isle is bright and pops as the main artist is in white.

Song Ideas

Track 1 - All Time Low - Jon Bellion

I believe this song is unique and we could either explore the narrative side or make an arty colourful video to complement the upbeat nature of the track.

Track 2 - Gold - Years & Years

This song was on FIFA 16 and I feel like we could replicate that vibe in this song.

Cross Media Synergy

Cross Media Synergy :

This is keeping a consistent brand image to promote an artists album or single.

For example...

Bryson Tiller - TRAPSOUL

Bryson Tiller released the album TRAPSOUL on October 2, 2015 and it was a very popular album, mostly across America but also reached the UK due to its unique trap sound. Bryson had common themes from his album cover to his video.

The album keeps an eerie lighting throughout he video and album cover.

Marking Student Videos

In class we looked at two music videos and marked them individually with the mark scheme.

Firstly we watched this one ...

We as a class marked this together and came to the conclusion it was a low-mid level 4. It has a variety of shot sizes and the control of the camera is near perfection.

Secondly we watched Insomnia...

After watching this we believed it was a low level 3 as it included some nice editing but often there were too long time periods between cuts.

Then we watched some music videos on our own...

The first one I saw was a video for Can't Hold Us

After watching this I believe this music video is a mid to high level 4 as their is almost everything you need included in the video. Crisp shots and really good editing with a great narrative.

Second one I watched was a video for Something About You

This video is clearly a very high level 4 as the editing techniques are insane and the timing of all transitions and movements on screen is perfectly in time with the music. Also the video reflects the genre perfectly.

Audience

Consuming music, how do I do it?

I mostly listen to all my music on Apple Music and Soundcloud through my phone or on my computer but I do still buy albums if I really like the artist and want to support them. For example Jon Bellion’s recent album The Human Condition although on Apple Music, I decided to purchase it aswell.

I wake up to music as my alarm and listen to music all through the day apart from in lessons. I listen to a variety of artist and genres dependent on my mood. Although my commonly I am listening to Hip Hop. As soon as I start driving I do expect that in every single journey I shall listen to music.

Music in some circumstances for me is a distraction or an acceptance of the way I feeling in that moment. I put music on when I go in the shower or am trying to work to just have something that is good in the background distracting me from the fact that I am doing work and to make the experience more enjoyable. Or it can be an acceptance of how you want to feel, not necessarily sad, when you are feeling happy I will play, for example, Guidance by Travis Scott, (because it is what I’m into right now) and jam. If I am feeling down I may decide to listen to Ivy by Frank Ocean and cry for a few days.

Also I like to watch DJ's and their performances and believe it to be a real skill. For example i have watched a set by DJ Craze on YouTube.
