Off the back of our Album Cover inspiration post we have
developed a couple of test album covers. We have used the off white background
colour with the image and text on top.
We also tried out a third idea with a pattern in the
background which didn't work as well. The design didn't work because the
pattern made it hard to read the text.
We are all free period 1 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and
Friday. On a Wednesday we are free for 2 lessons at the start then finish at
half 1. On a Thursday week A we are all free after first lesson also we have
media last so therefore we have 4 lesson together were we are free. On Friday
week a we all finish early. We are all not free on weekends due to other
commitments therefore most of our filming will be done during frees and media
lessons. On Thursday period 3 we are all free together. On Wednesday, Thursday
and Friday we have media so we can go out and film During lunch and then stay
out as long as we need.
Myself and Nathan had a vision of making a short filler shot
of the band at a table and then using a white sheet to make change from a nice
scene where the band are sitting together to a messed up scene where the band
are dancing and singing. In the video i have embedded below, the end result of
us filming this sequence is displayed. We do not think we are going to use this
footage however for the following reasons...
This is our science experiment for out science room scene. We
used baking soda and baking powder. We did a test with both to see what one was
more fizzy which would work better. In the actual scene we will use a test tube
so the reaction shots upwards out the tube. We added in food colouring to make
it a different colour so it was stand out in the shot.
This is madness - Our House. The persona and the way the
band acts is how we want to be. Its a nice and relaxed feel to there work. Also
its fun and it looks like they are having a good time. Which makes the audience
feel like the whole band us a good group of mates together and it makes it work
well in he video. The video isn't serious and it looks like they have just pout
it together randomly but this is what makes the video good. This is he sort of
feel we want to give across and the theme of our song gives across this feel.
When you listen to our song it makes you happy and its far from serious.
This is another Madness video which looks fun and joking.
The way someone is sitting in a lock down a river then gets up and walk away
with flippers on makes it look funny and feel different. Also the person
running away from a Hurst down the road. Which would never happen in real life
and therefore gives an unrealistic feel which makes it show the bands persona.
The different people in different costume makes the video look like they're
actually going to be like that in real life which we want to put across. Also
when the band is in all the same outfits and are singing and dancing to each
other gives off a happy and fun vibe. This dynamic come across well. The
outfits shows they are together as one and no on is above the other so they all
dress similar. All the people are singing which doesn't make one person the
star. All of them are equal together unlike some other bands
White t-shirts, jeans, hand prints (red, blue, green),
Casey Flip up transition - now into the Performance part in
the drama studio (or other location) with the trio having different coloured
hand prints on their faces (colour selection of just those colours on their
faces, rest Black and White),
Midshot of trio again of singing, Keyboard starts - Extreme
Low angle tilted up to hands playing the chords on a keyboard. High angle of
someone hitting a drum on the snare beat.
Deadlines come and deadlines go - girl runs through a wide
shot of the group playing instruments, she has a t-shirt on or a sign around
her neck that says deadlines on it, maybe dances with JK and leaves when he
needs to sing - and there's the pressure.
Break free and lose control - Dance moves, longshot
The crowd and artist involvement in the nightclub parts of
Tom Odell's Wrong Crowd video is what I aim to take inspiration from, obviously
ours will be out on a field rather than in a nightclub and ours will be more of
a low angle with the dancing crowd behind the artists.
Below are two videos which have a common theme of feel good and happy dancing. We want to incorporate this into our music video. The difference is that one video is from the 70's whereas the other is modern day.
Below I have listed three album covers which we are using as
inspiration for our own. An aspect of the covers which we like is the
simplicity with a block colour theme. The first and last covers are of a very
similar style with an image on an off-white canvas so it shows up on websites
such as iTunes. This is an aspect we are going to include. We also liked the
colour scheme of Roy Woods album along with the simplicity. The colour scheme
is slightly dark for our band however the theme is something we will consider.
One member of Avenue, had a day out with fellow artists St.Dizier, Mya and Ava. We used each others snapchat accounts to promote each other while also doing covers for other songs.
This post contains evidence of constant discussion about the
music video. In this sound clip we spoke about the visuals we want to include
at the bridge of the song.
Today we did a practice take for our opening sequence. We
ran through the dance moves, the camera angles and movement and also the
editing process. By doing this practice we assessed the technicalities of the
sequence. For example, the opening shot of the zoom might be avoided as it
looked to unstable and we thought cutaways might look more professional.
We had to look up fonts to use for our album over, digipack and variety of other things to go with our song. It is vital to carry over the fonts over all different aspects of our video.
This is our group. Joe Kiff (JK) is far left, He is our main
actor in the music video 1/3. Nathan Henton is middle left, he will be the
camera man of the group shooting all the footage. Oliver Loom (Biscuits) is
middle right, he will be another actor in the music video apart of the band
1/3. And I am far right, Harry Hazell (Hazza 4), i will also be an actor in the
video and be part of the band 1/3.
Presenter: " Today i am at the school where it all
started for the band avenue. Lets go meet the band."
Presenter: "Who are you? Tell people who might not
know?"
Presenter: "Avenue is an interesting name, where did it
come from?"
Avenue: Anecdote about where they lived. Lead into fan base
in Iceland.
Presenter: "How is the music video coming along for your
single Pressure?"
Presenter: "What type of visuals are we expecting from
the music video which is coming soon?"
Presenter: "Final question. What is with the
hats?"
Nathan
and Olly went to the locations that we were thinking of using for our groups
music video and scouted them out and took photos of certain framings; mostly of
the long shots that would be used. Low Angle Shot - Graffiti Wall
The picture shows how we plan to use the stairs at the wall
to our advantage of creating a shot that is different to the general midshots
and longshots that we would continually fall back on.
(NOT) Shooting against the Graffiti Wall
We decided after looking at the location that shooting against the graffiti wall wasn't the feel that we wanted in our video, maybe if it was covered in block colours or more artistic graffiti then it would be different but this "chavy street" look doesn't fit our video in our mind.
Shooting in a grassier area, a Longshot from a High Angle
This type of location really filled the frame but you can see the concrete space in the centre which would be useful as an easy space for the band to stand and do their performance.
(NOT) Shooting inside abandoned building
We decided that firstly this shooting location would not be
worth the work when we could easily shoot somewhere else and that to be able to
shoot inside we would need some lighting and a generator and working with a
strict shooting schedule this could be hard to work with.
Shooting longshots around this cabin, as well as other shots
closer and within.
This area has some interesting scenery to play with within
the composition of the frame, also if we shot at this time again (sunset) I
thought the lens flare could be used interestingly.
Shooting walking sequence down a road
I just like the symmetry that can sometimes be found down a
road, of the nice framing that can be seen. We also thought of doing these
shots down one the other avenues nearby...
As you can see this length of the road vastly improves the
shot, giving that real sense of depth and as seen on the photo of the map we
have six different avenues to choose from on the day that we shoot this
location, so we can find the one least filled up with cars.
Longshot of group walking across field (red smoke)
This field with the lighter ground compared to the green
hedgerows and trees and blue sky makes for a nice three colour spread across
the frame and picture (even though the colour was going by this time, this shot
at Golden Hour would be fantastic).
This was before we even started the creation of the website where I had a picture in my head of what I wanted to recreate. It then lead onto a basic first draft.
This is our final chosen song Pressure, Tensnake feat Thabo.
We finally decided on this song due to the feedback from the class that we
gathered. Also we thought that the genre was different to any other music video
chosen before. Also the up beat and happiness to the song put a different spin
on other conventional idea. We also heard the rest of the year choices and this
didn't sound like any other. When we kept listening to the song over and over
again many idea flowed through our heads and where said to the group which we
all liked. We had the most different and abstract idea throughout fro this song
therefore we decided to go ahead and chose this.
Here are the lyrics for the song.
Sitting at work on a Monday morning
Spreadsheet files and coffee pouring
Office work can be so boring
But then there's the pressure, I'm under pressure
Hot as fire cold as snow
Deadlines come and deadlines go
But I wanna break free and lose control
But then there's the pressure, I'm under pressure
There's a revolution in my head
Give me a pallet, I'ma paint this town red
Oh baby baby, I'ma stand my ground
Demand will never ever get me down
Rain down with your optimism
Where I go is my decision
You and me, let's start collision
And release the pressure, I'm under pressure
Hot as fire cold as snow
Time has passed and I've lost my soul
This life can get so rock and roll, rock and roll
And it doesn't get better, it doesn't get better
There's a revolution in my head
Give me a pallet, I'ma paint this town red
Oh baby baby, I'ma stand my ground
Demand will never ever get me down
I'm under pressure, pressure
I'm under pressure
And it doesn't get better, get better
And it doesn't get better
And release, and release, and release the pressure
